Start with your needs
Think about where you use your phone, how much data you need and what you can afford. Coverage can vary by location and indoors. Check provider coverage information and, where possible, test a service before committing to a long contract.
Make sense of the terminology
Pay as you go, monthly contracts and SIM-only services have different payment arrangements. A SIM identifies your subscription; an eSIM is built into a compatible device and activated digitally. Check both device compatibility and provider support before choosing.
Look beyond the headline price
Read the total cost, minimum term, any price changes, roaming arrangements and charges outside the allowance. Check cancellation conditions and support accessibility. Wi-Fi calling may help in some locations, but device and provider support vary.
Changing provider
If you want to keep your number, understand the porting process and request the appropriate code from your existing provider. Check any outstanding commitment before switching. Ofcom explains switching mobile provider.
Our independence
Our guidance is intended to help you understand your options. Viora Foundation does not recommend a service simply because of a commercial relationship and does not require you to purchase a particular mobile product to receive our help. Any future recommendations should explain their criteria and disclose relevant conflicts.
