Understand the extra step
Two-factor authentication, also called two-step verification, asks for an additional check when you sign in. Depending on the service, this may involve an authenticator app, a security key or a code.
Find the setting
Sign in through the official app or website. Look under account, security or sign-in settings. Follow the service’s instructions and choose a method you can reliably access.
Prepare for a lost device
Store recovery codes securely and check that recovery details are current. Understand how to regain access before you replace a phone.
Keep codes private
Do not share a sign-in code with someone who calls or messages you. An unexpected approval request is a reason to check your account. NCSC explains account protection.
